Also read kyousaku. A rod, used to awaken monks who doze off during Zen meditation. Shaped like a baton, about 130cm long, with a wide, flat tip. Known as keisaku by the Rinzai 臨済 sect, and kyousaku by the Soutou 曹洞 sect of Zen Buddhism.
