kawarajiki 瓦敷
KEY WORD : architecture / roofing tiles
 
A floor that consists of tiles placed over hard-pack earthen floor, especially common in Zen temples. When the tiles are set diagonal to the walls, the floor is called *shihanjiki 四半敷. When the tiles are set in rows parallel to the walls of building, the floor is called *nunojiki 布敷.
