katanagareyou 片流様
KEY WORD : architecture / gardens

An oblong island created in a garden pond. Although a fabrication, its appearance seems genuine due to the natural flow of water around it. A reference to katanagareyou apears in the *SAKUTEIKI 作庭記 (11c), the oldest extant Japanese treatise on landscape gardening, attributed to Tachibana Toshitsuna 橘俊綱 (1028-94).
