kareike 枯池

Lit. dry pond. A symbolic pond made with rocks, pebbles and white sand instead of water. Along with the more common dry waterfall *karetaki 枯滝 and dry stream *karenagare 枯流, it is one element of a dry landscape *karesansui 枯山水 garden. The homonym kareike 涸池 refers to a pond in which the water has dried up.
