Also written L“Œ, Šż“‡, Šż“n and ŠŐ“‡. @A fine silk striped woven material, perhaps named after the Japanese pronunciation of Canton in China. Imported from Ming dynasty China in the 15c, it was admired by tea adepts along with *kinran ‹ŕćE and *donsu ăjŽq as a highly respected fabric *meibutsugire –ź•¨—ô. Cotton striped material imported from India, Southeast Asia and the Middle East was also called kantou. Famous types are called Yazaemon –íŽO‰E‰q–ĺ, Aoki Â–Ř, Mochizuki –]ŒŽ, Funakoshi ‘D‰z, Hino “ú–ě, and Yahyoue –í•ş‰q.
