kamakebiki 鎌毛引
KEY WORD : architecture / tools

A double-line marking gauge with an iron handle bent into an L-shape where the marking blade is attached. The iron handle is fitted into a wooden guide, jougidai 定規台, with an indented section that can be slid and fixed to the required position. The metal handle is secured with a hand-turned screw attached to the guide. A guide known as nimai kebiki 二枚毛引, also has two blades, fixed above and below the arm, and can therefore mark two parallel lines at the same time.
