kagami-no-ma 鏡の間

Lit. mirror room. A room separated by a curtain from the passageway hashigakari 橋掛り leading to a noh stage *noubutai 能舞台. The performers, dressed in costume, wait in this room before entering the stage by way of the hashigakari. The room has one or more mirrors in which the performers examine their appearances making certain all is in order before entering the stage. The room is also used by the musicians for tuning their instruments before taking their assigned places on the stage.
