Also written ŽΞŠs. A diagonal section of wall forming part of a gateway barrier *umadashi ”no in a castle. This is a variation of the square gateway barrier *kaku-umadashi Šp”no, with a wall on one side of the gateway *koguchi ŒΥŒϋ, projecting diagonally, instead of at a right angle. The diagonal wall, usually on the left side when facing outwards from the castle entranceAis called hizumiguruwa. The purpose of this projecting diagonal is to launch arrow or gun attacks into the side of approaching enemy lines. These side attacks are called *yokoya ‰‘–ξ.
