hirakudarimune 平降棟

Also called hirakudari 平降 or *kudarimune 降棟. Descending ridges at the front and rear sides of a tiled roof *kawarabuki 瓦葺. They are at right angles to the main ridge. The descending ridges, set in a very short distance from the edge of the roof, are decorative rather than functional. Example; Mirokuji Hondou 彌勒寺本堂, Hyougo prefecture (1379) and Houryuuji Daikoudou 法隆寺大講堂, Nara (end 10c).
