*Tatami 畳 edging. A cloth border attached to tatami mats. Varieties include: a single-colour border of black, navy, brown or green cloth; a border called *ungenberi 繧繝縁 where a pattern is created through dark and light color-tones; or *kouraiberi 高麗縁, which uses large and small motifs. Materials used include hemp asa 麻, silk kinu 絹, brocade *nishiki 錦 and all kinds of mixed fibers.
