hanaguri 鼻繰

A generic name for moldings *kurigata 繰形, used on the edge of bracket arms *hijiki 肘木, rainbow beams *kouryou 虹梁, penetrating tie beams *nuki 貫, beam projections *kibana 木鼻, and tail rafters *odaruki 尾垂木. They first appeared in the Kamakura period. The term hanaguri sometimes refers specifically to the earliest type of beam-end moldings used in daibutsu style architecture *daibutsuyou 大仏様 in the early Kamakura period.
