hana

Lit. nose. Also called hanasaki 鼻先. The end or tip of a structural member such as a beam, rafter end, ridge end etc. If a garden stone has a nose-like protrusion, the protruding part is called hana. More often written 端 when it refers to the edge of objects or verge, which is the edge of a tile roof that extends beyond the gable.
