geyageta 下屋桁

Also called hon'yageta 本屋桁. The eaves plate or purlin supported by the *geyabashira 下屋柱, or the row of posts along the outside of the peripheral zone *geya 下屋, created by extending the roof beyond the central main frame *jouya 上屋, in traditional vernacular houses *minka 民家, with thatched roofs. It supports the ends of the rafters *taruki 垂木. The term serves to the distinguish this purlin from the *jouyageta 上屋桁.
