A fake or forgery. To produce a likeness of another painting with intent to deceive. Generally the forger is careful to use the technique, style and materials of the original. However, modern techniques such as infrared rays, ultraviolet rays, x-rays and Carbon 14 dating have been developed to help detect such forgeries.
