Also called iriwadome “ό—Φ—― or eridome ‹έ—―. Lit. collar miter. An angle joint *shiguchi ŽdŒϋ used at the inner corner of a building where two non-penetrating tie beams *nageshi ’·‰Ÿ are connected at a right angle. The upper part of the joint has a collar tenon *eriwa ‹έ—Φ while the base of the joint is mitered or is stopped by a flat surface. This angle joint is also made at the inner corners of lintels *kamoi Š›‹ and framing uprights for sliding screens, windows or doors.
