Paint. Usually refers to an insoluble pigment *ganryou Šη—Ώ or soluble dye senryou υ—Ώ, mixed or dissolved in a binder *baizai ”}ά or thinner youbai —n”}. Types of paint such as oil paint abura-enogu –ϋŠG‹ο and watercolour mizu-enogu …ŠG‹ο are classified according to the binding medium used. Japanese paintings *nihonga “ϊ–{‰ζ are usually made with insoluble mineral pigments in a binder of animal glue *nikawa δP. See *iwa-enogu ŠβŠG‹ο. Examples include the red pigment *shu Žι, green *rokushou —ΐ and blue *gunjou ŒQΒ.
