Lit. veranda ear board. The outermost board on the kure-en žÒ‰ type of veranda which has long floor boards running parallel to the wall of the building. If the veranda is the kirime-en Ø–Ú‰ type that has floor boards at a right angle to the wall with cut ends facing outward, the enmimi-ita is sometimes attached at a right angle to the cut ends as a protection against rot caused by weathering.
