The movable face plate. The most elaborate gimmick used on the bugaku mask *bugakumen 舞楽面 *Genjouraku 還城楽, where the eyes, nose, cheeks and upper lip form a panel which slips under the heavy eyebrows and is secured. As the dancer moves, it bounces slightly. Another structural device, the dangling chin *tsuriago 吊顎, is also used on the Genjouraku mask.
