doibuki 土居葺
KEY WORD : architecture / general terms
 
1 Generally a base for tile roofing *kawarabuki 瓦葺. A board covering is placed over the roof framework not only to spread the clay for setting the tiles but also to absorb rainwater, thus protecting the roof framework.

2 A sheathing on which to lay a thick shingled roof *kokerabuki 柿葺, cypress bark roofing *hiwadabuki 桧皮葺 etc. It can also refer to the shingles themselves. Sometimes this term is abbreviated to *doi 土居 or kurebuki 榑葺.
