dashimise-zukuri 出店造
KEY WORD : architecture / shrines

Small shrine buildings in an early Kasuga style *kasuga-zukuri 春日造, that had no hip rafters *sumigi 隅木. The roofs have gables and the entrances are on the gable ends. These buildings were ranked as second class, lower than the main shrine, honsha 本社, and are called *sessha 摂社. Shrines in this style can be seen along the roadside, within the precincts of large shrines, and sometimes within the grounds of a Buddhist temple.
