dashibei　出塀

A wall projecting 15 - 30cm outwards from the flat top *inubashiri 犬走り of a castle embankment or rampart. This wall enables the defenders to observe the movement of enemy forces and it serves as a platform for counterattack with spears and stones, directly above the attacking enemy forces .
