daikaiyuushiki teien 　大回遊式庭園

Lit. large strolling style garden. A type of large-scale garden which is enjoyed on foot. Most large strolling gardens feature a pond and can be considered *chisen kaiyuushiki teien 池泉回遊式庭園 (lake and fountain strolling style), but a few daimyou gardens *daimyou teien 大名庭園 such as Kairakuen 偕楽園 in Ibaraki prefecture, and Iso Teien 磯庭園 (Sengan'en 仙厳園) in Kagoshima prefecture, have only small streams. Typically daikaiyuushiki teien feature a large variety of plants, artificial hills and pavilions.
