Also daibutsuyoukei kibana ‘啧—lŒn–Ø•@. Lit. nosings in the daibutsu style. Incised nosings found on bracket arms, pillars, and tail rafters. Early designs consisted of curved lines and series of arcs. Gradually more elaborate carvings were used, especially animal heads. From the Muromachi period elephant, lion, and peony motifs were very popular. The ornamental nosings were made separately and attached to edge of the member, and so they are also known as *kakehana Œœ•@. Although originally found on daibutsu style architecture *daibutsuyou ‘啧—l in the early Kamakura period, incised nosings also became popular on Japanese style buildings *wayou ˜a—l.
