Lit. a strengthening bracket arm. An extension of an interior tie beam which terminates on the exterior as a bracket arm *hijiki •I–Ψ to receive and support the tail rafter *odaruki ”φ‚–Ψ. This bracket arm lessens the downward thrust of the tail rafter and stabilizes the overall weight of the structural members of the roof.
