Colored woodblock prints that decorated the outsides of tea boxes designed for export to Europe and America from 1862 on. Popular designs included motifs of different colored papers and birds-and-flowers. Examples by Utagawa Hiroshige 3 三代歌川広重 (1843-94), Utagawa Kunitsuna 歌川国綱(1805-68), Utagawa Kunimatsu 歌川国松 (fl. second half 19c) and Kawanabe Gyousai 河鍋暁斎 (1831-89) still exist.
