bokusekimado 墨蹟窓

A window on the side wall of an alcove *tokonoma 床の間, used to provide light so that a hanging scroll can be closely inspected. The window is in the rustic *shitajimado 下地窓 style. The bokusekimado was popularized by Furuta Oribe 古田織部 (1544-1615), an esteemed tea master.
