bakuryou 曝涼

Lit. airing. Also called mushiboshi 虫干. The practise of inspecting and airing valuables that have been in storage to check insect and climatic damage, usually carried out in late summer or early autumn. The practise often becomes an annual ritual, as seen in the autumn exhibition of the treasures of the *Shousouin 正倉院 held at the Nara National Museum.
