baikenmon 梅軒門

Lit. plum eaves gate. Also written 梅見門. A type of gate used in tea gardens *roji 露地, that features a gable roof made of cedar bark. The roof is supported by cypress posts. The two-panel door, made of latticed bamboo, swings open in the middle. The middle gate *chuumon 中門, of the Konnichian 今日庵 at Urasenke 裏千家 in Kyoto is a good example of the type.
